Head Sweating — Understanding the Causes and Possible Treatments

Human body consists of 2 - 3 millions of sweat glands. People sweat from places other than underarms, including hands, facial and head sweating. Quite a few people also experience sweating in their backs, feet as well as in genital area.

People who suffer from face and/or head sweating can potentially be very embarrassing because it is more difficult to disguise than sweating in other places of the body.

Causes of Face and Head Sweating

Excessive sweat on the head can be hyperhidrosis. It can lead to many other effects other than embarrassment. Patients may feel discomfort because of the itch in the scalp and unhealthy hair. Sweat trapped in the hairs can promote bad smell.

Excessive sweating can be controlled. You should consult an MD immediately if you think you are suffering from head hyperhidrosis, although natural treatments may be sought after if first, especially in situations when it is not severe.

Medical therapies such as aluminum containing compounds, such as drysol, or oral medications may help. Botox (botulinum toxin) and iontopheresis (introducing small electric current) have not been tried though.

In severe cases, patient may need thorough checkup such as MRI scan, blood pressure check and examination of family history of heart disease and cancer. MRI would rule out many of the anatomical causes or masses.

Natural treatments may involve various herbal remedies. It may take some time, so it is important that you make commitment to finish it and be persistent.
