Sweating Causes — Symptoms, Causes, and Types of Sweating

When body temperature rises, your autonomic nervous system stimulates the sweat glands to secrete fluid onto the surface of your skin to cools your body as it evaporates. Human beings have between 2 - 3 millions sweat glands. What are the different sweating causes and the symptoms?

1. Heredity
People who suffer from excessive sweating in palms and the soles of feet may inherit the problem. However, that’s not always the case.

2. Food and beverages
Easting spicy food and drinking hot beverages can promote sweating.

3. Medication
Certain types of drugs, such as antipsychotic medications and excess doses of thyroid hormone thyroxine may cause excessive sweating.

4. Hormones
Low level of male hormones and women who are going through menopauses may experience hot flashes. A rise in body temperature may be accompanied by sweating.

5. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
If the level of sugar in blood drops between certain level, especially for people who suffer from diabetes, sweating may follow as part of the effects.

6. Fevers
When body temperature returns to normal after a fever, the patient may sweat profusely because the body is dissipating excess heat. Other diseases like tuberculosis and malaria also known to cause profuse sweating. For tuberculosis, night sweats are common.

7. Thyroids disease
Thyroid gland produces thyroxine hormone. Overactive thyroid may cause you to perspire actively. The symptoms for this disease includes weight loss, rapid and/or irregular heartbeat, sensitivity to heat and nervousness.

8. Heart problems
The symptoms of heart attack include squeezing pain in your chest. It may extend to your shoulder, arm or back. Intense sweating and shortness of breath are two common signs too.

9. Cancer and tumor
Certain types of cancers, like leukemia, can produce usual sweating patterns.
